The Paperdoll Moves to the Former
Southside News Space in Fairhaven
Bellingham, WA, September 28, 2007 - The Paperdoll, Fairhaven’s kitschy gift and accessory boutique is moving early next month (October) to the former Southside News Storefront located at 1200 10th Street, Suite 103. With the move, The Paperdoll will expand its offerings to home décor, clothing and modern lighting – as well as begin to present a variety of DIY (Do it Yourself) craft courses and interior design consulting with the store space expansion.
The Paperdoll owner, Shultzie Fay, decided to make the move to ground floor from their 3rd floor hideout in Sycamore’s Square to expand the shop’s inventory and increase her customer base. Fay felt that the time was right, and when the opportunity to lease the former newsstand arose – she jumped in feet first.
“It was just time for us to move our shop to ground level,” said Fay. “We have become a destination location in the Sycamore building and made it through our first year and a half even with the challenge of being on the third floor.”
Fay went on to say that the store has been a haven for those who are looking for something one of a kind and original, drawing in repeat customers from as far away as Portland and Alaska.
“We have had great response to the shop,” said Fay. “Folks from all over love coming here and knowing they are getting something that is either hand-made or from and independent designer.”
The Paperdoll, known for its collections of eclectic accessories and emerging designer wares, started out with a mere handful of designers that Fay knew from her years of living in New York, San Francisco and Seattle. With her move to the new location, Fay says that they now feature designers from all over the world.
"We started the store with just thirty five designers – and within a year and a half, we have increased our inventory to carry about two hundred. There are just so many amazing designers out there that I want to support.”
Though the first few years of business for small retailers can be trying, The Paperdoll is on track to be a staple within the Bellingham business scene for years to come.
“Wanting to have a little shop like this is one thing,” said Fay. “Having people love and support the store is another. We are so thankful that this shop connects with so many people on so many levels – it’s been a true blessing to be this successful thus far.”
